What's On This Summer with Christchurch City Council and ZM.

The days are getting brighter, the weather’s getting warmer and Summer is almost here which means we've got some epic FREE events lined up for everyone all around Christchurch!


  • Christmas Family Festival: FREE
    • Date: Sunday 4 December
    • Time: 11.30am – 5pm
    • Location: Victoria Square

The Christmas Family Festival will bring together live music, family entertainment, bouncy castles and food vendors. Local performers and music acts like the All Girl Big Band and Music with Michal. Word on the street is that Santa is also going to make an appearance.

This is a great opportunity to grab your friends and whānau to enjoy some live entertainment and fun in the sun. Find out more here –

  • NYE22
    • Date: Saturday 31 December
    • Time: 6pm – 12:30am
    • Location: North Hagley Park
    • More Info: Christchurch’s biggest NYE party featuring the iconic Dragon, playing live!

Kicking off with interactive fun for the whole family and entertainment from Music with Michal plus a kids' countdown, before the main show.

Australasian music icons Dragon will then take the stage with their well-known hits April Sun in Cuba, Rain, Are You Old Enough and more! This epic line-up also includes 1 Drop Nation, Black & Gold (cover band) and local artist Sam Heselwood.

It wouldn’t be New Year's without a huge midnight fireworks display. A large range of food trucks will be selling delicious treats on the night.

This is a smoke-free, vape-free and alcohol-free event (24-hour liquor ban). For quick entry leave your bags at home as these may be searched on entry. No glass allowed. Find out more here –

  • Sparks
    • Date: Saturday 21 January
    • Time: 6:30pm – 9:30pm
    • Location: North Hagley Park
    • More Info: Sparks is back in 2023!

Get your friends and whānau together to celebrate the 40th anniversary at our city’s dazzling fireworks extravaganza, featuring the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. With popular Conductor David Kay at the helm, the CSO will deliver a fun programme of classics, modern favourites and cultural collaborations.

No picnic? No problem! Lots of food and drink providers will be onsite for you to enjoy.

Bag checks will also be carried out to stop any glass from entering the site. Please leave all pets at home. Find out more here –
